Anybody catch this this week? It was a big story, hip hop and violence usually is though.

Did anyone catch Snoop with Jay Lenno last night, cool segment. They chatted about family, the big game and his new release. The song he did second was a stirring dedication to all the Hommies down by law. Just as I was about to question where the conscious of the Dogg Pound has gone, he hit hard with a lyrical salute to those millions behind bars.
I also caught on KPFK Snoops eulogy to Tookie Williams who he considered to be a mentor. It was at the main gathering in South Central, forge tthe church, and it was truly touching, in rhyme and time yet sincere and real.
His new film, a serious part for Snoop, should be interesting. It's about a writter working on a book squating in a NY flat to finish the book or something close to that.

'Live 8' concerts to fight poverty

'Live 8' concerts to fight poverty

Tuesday, May 31, 2005 Posted: 10:58 AM EDT (1458 GMT)

Geldof wants to influence the G8 summit.

LONDON, England -- Twenty years after he staged Live Aid to help save the starving in Ethiopia, Bob Geldof has announced plans for new concerts to fight poverty in Africa.

Five concerts will take place on July 2 at Hyde Park in London, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, the Circus Maximus in Rome and the Museum of Art in Philadelphia.

Under the title "Live 8," the concerts -- which will be free -- are aimed at raising awareness of poverty just before leaders of the Group of Eight industrialized nations meet in Scotland.

Geldof said Tuesday the concerts would be different from Live Aid in 1985. Those concerts -- held in London and Philadephia -- raised more than $100 million for famine relief.

"It couldn't be about charity any more. We knew too much," the Irish rock star told a news conference in London.

"We arrived here today because I was very reluctant to do this again, I couldn't see how anything could possibly be better than that glorious day 20 years ago, almost perfect in what it achieved and the day itself."

Geldof said the G8 summit presented a unique opportunity "to do something unparalleled in the world, and especially at the beginning of the 21st Century, and that is to tilt the world a little bit on its axis in favor of the poor, and that's not a difficult thing to do."

Those scheduled to perform at the London concert include: Mariah Carey, Paul McCartney, Coldplay, Dido, Elton John, Keane, Annie Lennox, Madonna, Muse, REM, the Scissor Sisters, Joss Stone, Stereophonics, Sting, Snoop, U2 and Robbie Williams.

Among artists set for Berlin are A-Ha, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Lauryn Hill and Brian Wilson. The concert in Rome will feature Faith Hill and Duran Duran, while in Paris the bill will include Jamiroquai, Craig David, Youssou N'Dour and Yannick Noah.

In Philadelphia, the scheduled acts are the Dave Matthews Band, Puff Daddy, Jay-Z, Bon Jovi, Will Smith and Stevie Wonder.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair has campaigned to help Africa during the UK's presidency of the G8 this year and will host leaders at a summit July 6 to 8 in Gleneagles in Scotland.

But campaigners fear discord between G8 nations on debt reduction and aid spending plans, combined with reluctance in Washington, will wreck Blair's ambitions.

They warn African schools and hospitals could receive no new money from the lavish summit, which could cost as much as £100 million ($180 million) to stage, Reuters reported.

"We are really concerned that we're a long, long way away from any kind of breakthrough on tackling poverty in Africa," said Oxfam policy adviser Max Lawson.

Snoop Dogg and Justin Timberlake Film Video Together

Snoop Dogg and Justin Timberlake Film Video Together
by Eve Jenkin

18 March 2005

Remember the video that "dawg" Justin Timberlake released with Nelly where they were gardeners in the Playboy Mansion? Well, Timberlake is set to release another song with a rap superstar, but this time it's with Snoop Dogg and the video 'Signs' will be filmed in Las Vegas.

The song will be the next release from Snoop, and amidst working on his very own video game the artist formerly known as Snoop Doggy Dogg managed to find the time to head to the two day video shoot in Las Vegas.

There will be no Playboy bunnies frolicking in this filmclip - just the two artists performing and then placing bets on an underground boxing match. Wait a minute. This is a Snoop/J.T filmclip. Rest assured there is bound to be booty involved somewhere along the line.

Snoop Dogg headlines at Cornell

Snoop Dogg headlines at Cornell

Monday, March 14, 2005

Administrators at Cornell University have long wanted to move the focus away from alcohol at the famous party on the last day of classes known as Slope Day.

Before restrictions in recent years, students would carry containers of mixed drinks to Libe Slope, which overlooks Cayuga Lake, and drink for hours. Recent efforts have included fencing the area, requiring identification for on-site beer sales, banning containers and adding more food and music options.

For this year's party, May 6, the Slope Day Programming Board has hired rapper Snoop Dogg to perform. Students will get in free, and guests will be limited to those older than 18 who have $25 tickets bought in advance.

Having such a famous act headlining on Slope Day advances the administration's goal of transforming the day into a musical event. But administrators aren't necessarily rap fans.

The Cornell Daily Sun reported that Dean of Students Kent Hubbell has been listening to a Snoop Dogg CD. His reaction: "I haven't quite taken to the lyrics. They're very explicit."

Gizoogle sizzles with 'izzlespeak'

www.gizoogle.com

Gizoogle sizzles with 'izzlespeak'

Stephen A. Crockett Jr.
Washington Post
Mar. 28, 2005 12:00 AM

There are words and phrases that manipulate their way into the collective language of coolness - making them so uncool.

"You da man!" is one such phrase. A few years ago, it had 50-year-old guys in office slacks pointing finger guns.

After this story, we can add all things "izzle."

Fo shizzle.

Because now, for the Internet gangsta inside us all, there is Gizoogle.

Reader be warned: This isn't a family-friendly site.

Gizoogle is the illegitimate cousin of Google that translates its search results into Snoop Dogg slang, or "izzlespeak." Enter "Vice President Dick Cheney" in the search field and it turns up "Vizzy President Dizzle Cheney." It then supplies the same information on the subjects as Google does, except it's izzle-filled and obscenity- laden.

We can thank MTV for this.

MTV is the hub for izzle-isms and Snoop Dogg's sketch comedy show, Doggy Fizzle Televizzle. Thus, gizillions of izzles reach places like York, Pa., and people like John Beatty, 28, the Web designer who created Gizoogle.

"I was talking to my buddy on AOL Instant Messenger and he always talks in that izzle-speak. I was thinking that it might be cool if there was a site that searched and all of the answers came up in that format."

It started as a joke and a homage to Snoop Dogg for bringing izzlespeak back to the hip lexicon. But now the site is clocking 60,000 hits a day, according to Beatty. In February, the site landed at No. 4 on Entertainment Weekly's "Must List." The Gizoogle site also offers a translator called a "textilizer." If you input the words to something, say, sweet and innocent, such as the Barney theme song, and hit "enter" you get something like: "I love you/you love me/we're one stoked family/ witta bootylicious big hug and a kiss fizzle from me ta you/ won't you say you love me, too?"

And Beatty isn't the only one out there "izzilating." The master himself, Snoop Dogg, has a version on his Web site, SnoopDogg.com.

Snoop Dogg hits out at rap industry snobbery

20/03/2005 - 10:48:44

Hip-hop star Snoop Dogg has attacked the divide between America's East and West Coast, slamming New York rap fans for snubbing up-and-coming Los Angeles acts.

The Drop It Like It's Hot star also claims that some East Coast artists copy rappers on the West Coast and take the credit for their style.

The 33-year-old says: "We don't get no airplay on East Coast radio, but East Coast artists get all kinds of airplay on the West Coast.

"They're always stealing our style, stealing our slang, stealing our looks and getting paid off for it."

The rapper adds: "It's like on the West Coast, if you ain't with Dr Dre or Snoop Dogg, we ain't letting you in. That ain't fair. There are other guys out here doing it that should be given the opportunity as well."

Snoop Dogg joins Roskilde line-up

Snoop Dogg recently had his first number one single in the US

Organisers of Denmark's Roskilde music festival have announced US rapper Snoop Dogg will perform at this year's event.

The artist - real name Calvin Broadus - last visited the country in 1998.

Other acts scheduled to appear include Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson, metal band Black Sabbath and British jazz musician Jamie Cullum.

The festival, which has been an annual fixture since 1971 and was inspired by the 1969 Woodstock festival, will take place from 30 June to 3 July.

Some 75,000 tickets were sold for last year's event, where more than 150 artists - including Morrissey, the Pixies and Avril Lavigne - performed on the festival's six stages.

Held in the town of Roskilde near Copenhagen, the event attracts visitors from throughout Europe and the United States.

Snoop Dogg recently topped the US singles chart for the first time in his career with Drop It Like It's Hot.

The 33-year-old rapper has enjoyed six US top 10 albums since bursting onto the music scene in 1993. Hit songs include What's My Name? and Gin and Juice.
